Hankerin Ferinale, founder of Runehammer Games, discusses what board game designers can learn from the world of tabletop RPGs.
Hankerin is one of the most creative people I know, and he’s been creating RPG content for years. He has a ton of insight on how RPG concepts can improve board games.

You were talking about board games that draw you into the story. I find that Nemesis does that to me far more than any other board game. My memories of Nemesis games are mostly from the character perspective. It’s an incredibly thematic, tense, difficult game and I think that’s part of the reason it draws me in so deep. That’s a lot of the reason I love it so much.
I also play D&D, Star Wars Edge of the Empire and Starfinder and Nemesis comes closer to that part of playing an RPG than anything else I’ve played.
I’m trying to find that car game discussed in this episode. I think it is called Junked? The one where defeated players are not eliminated, but join the other side. Do I have the right name? Where can I find info on it?
Junk’d!
