Evan Derrick, designer and part owner of Van Ryder Games, discusses theme and how to really bring it to the forefront in a game.
Evan designed “Detective: City of Angels” which is one of the most thematic games I’ve ever seen, so I pick his brain on what makes a theme really come together.

Gabe,
Excellent interview! While I’m intrigued by the game, it’s not one I would have in my collection as it requires far more folks than my typical game group. However, it’s one I would gladly play. I thoroughly enjoyed the interview and Evan seems like a genuinely nice guy. I had a chance within a week of listening to your podcast, hearing another interview with him on the Brawling Brothers podcast. I know that on occasion, podcasters have one another on their respective shows…I think Josh and Brandon would love the opportunity to interview you (or vice versa)…I’ll reach out to them.
Cheers,
Joe
Thanks, Joe!
I’d be glad to be on their show, if they’d have me.
