Petter Olsen, designer of Kill the King, discusses the king of the hill mechanism. (We also might go into propane and propane accessories…)
Petter’s new game hinges on this particular mechanism, so he knows a lot about what makes it work well. You can check out his new game on Kickstarter HERE.

Great podcast guys. This is the best episode yet! I really enjoyed hearing the insight into Petter’s design process. 50-60 playtests seems like a lot but serves as a good ballpark figure for what it takes to produce a great game.
Keep up the good work Gabe. It would be great to hear another episode that follows the same format but focusing on a different mechanic.
Thanks
Thanks, Edward. I’m glad you enjoyed the episode. There will definitely be a lot more shows like this one that do a deep dive on a specific mechanism.
Gabe,
Great episode ~ I’m always impressed by the folks you ask to sit an interview. Petter proved exceptionally well-versed on a variety of gaming-issues and I really appreciated his insights on a variety of topics.
Cheers,
Joe
